Vikingegaarden's units drives around the world in electrical car
28-06-2010 09:03:44

On Friday 25th June two electrical cars left the Town Hall Square in Copenhagen to embark on an expedition around the world, a trip that will last a year. Behind the steering wheels sit the adventurers, writers and lecturers Nina Rasmussen and Hjalte Tin. Under the steering wheels are mounted dataloggers from Vikingegaarden in order to collect data from the entire trip.

Minister for Climate and Energy, Lykke Friis, were present when the cars took off, as well as a representative from the Chinese embassy in Denamrk.

Collected data includes information about when and how much is charged, overall electricity consumption, distance driven and so on. Data is transmitted via satellite to Vikingegaarden's server. Anyone who has interest in keeping abreast of the journey can visit the website www.motomundo.vikingegaarden.com where the data can be seen. Besides from the mentioned data, information about current position and the travelled itinerary is shown.

The electrical cars drive in stages from Copenhagen via Russia to EXPO in Shanghai. From here the cars are sailed to the U.S. where they drive cross the North American continent. The electrical cars are shipped again to be sailed back to Europe where they will participate in the Monte Carlo Rally and then finally return home to Denmark.

After the trip, the collected data will be used for analysis in order to map the electric cars' range, strength and reliability.
